Endless variety, The Hague

The city is well known for its political importance and for being the home of the Dutch royal family. There’s also a strong music vibe. Several great Dutch bands, including Kane, Anouk and Direct, all come from The Hague. There are plenty of concerts to choose from. The same goes for restaurants and bars. If you’re into good food and drink, you’ll definitely like it here. In the summer everyone’s out enjoying the sun on the large squares or on the beach. Good to know that the beach is really close by. The Hague offers endless variety, anytime, anywhere.

The city

The Hague is the capital of the province of Zuid-Holland and is also known as ‘s-Gravenhage. The city has over 500,000 inhabitants, which makes it the third major municipality. Both the Dutch government and parliament are located in the city of The Hague, and it is the seat of the Royal Family. Even though The Hague is not the Capital of The Netherlands, it still plays the part that usually is  reserved for a capital, for a large part. Almost all of the embassies and ministries are in The Hague, for instance, and it is the seat of many national and international courts.

The most exclusive retail formulas of the Netherlands are located within The Hague’s inner city, within an area of approximately 8 km2 (about 3 square miles) . The distance between stores is small. Moreover, there are no cars in the cosy shopping streets. The various squares, streets and markets in the The Hague inner city each breathe their own atmosphere.

Besides the cosy inner city, The Hague also has a lovely beach with cosy  beach resorts and the famous Scheveningen pier.

Once you are going to live in an apartment or studio, you have to register in the municipality where you will live. You are then registered in the Gemeentelijke Basisadministratie (communal basic administration), also referred to as GBA. To be included in the GBA, you need to have the Dutch nationality, or be treated as a Dutch citizen, according to legislature. Furthermore, you need to specify your (reason to) stay, and your address. Once you are registered, you can start enjoying living in The Hague.
